Touching Your World: Reaching Out as a Faculty Wife

Warmest Greetings,

While attending a faculty conference in Colorado in 1989, a number of faculty spouses from various parts of the country expressed their need for ideas and suggestions for reaching out in the university setting. The dream for this "how-to" manual grew out of that conversation.

"Touching Your World" represents contributions from a diverse group of women. They range from mothers with small children to empty nesters, from stay-at-home moms to career women, and from women whose husbands teach at small private colleges to those who teach and do research at large research universities.

Amidst their differences is the common bond of their love for the Lord and their desire to be used by Him. They see the university as an opportunity to touch lives and to have a significant impact for His kingdom.

"Touching Your World" contains ideas and suggestions tailored to you as a spouse in the university setting. My hope is that you will find a few ideas that will enable you to touch others with the message of the gospel. These ministry ideas are meant to challenge and equip you as you consider ways to touch lives in the university community.

The opportunities are there—opportunities uniquely suited to your gifts, abilities, interests, and schedule. You are influential! If you have never considered a ministry to the university, let me encourage you to seriously pray about it and then move forward in God’s timing.

God desires to use each of us as salt and light in the world around us. May we be obedient to what He asks us to do.

A verse that has been meaningful to me throughout this project is Habakkuk 1:5b. It says, "For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if you were told." We serve an awesome, incredible God. May He be glorified by our lives and efforts.
